Alexander-Sergei Ramírez was born in Lima, Peru, into a family of artists. Ramirez has performed worldwide in solo recitals, chamber music concerts (with Latica Honda-Rosenberg, Renaud Capucon, Daniel Hope, Rosamunde String Quartet, and Amati String Quartet), and as a soloist in orchestral concerts (including with the Belgian National Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Peru, the Latvian National Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Cuba, and the Musikkollegium Winterthur), often accompanied by radio and television recordings.

Important milestones included performances at the Salzburg Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Istanbul Music Festival, the Schubertiade, and Roskilde.

His first four CDs (works by Sor, Villa-Lobos, Ginaster, Rodrigo, among others) were released worldwide by the DENON label and received enthusiastic reviews from the international trade press.

DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHON released the CDs "Confesión," featuring works by the Paraguayan composer Agustín Barrios-Mangoré, and "Odyssey," with guitar pieces from five continents. Editor and critic Matanya Ophee wrote: "...the most fascinating 75 minutes I have ever heard" (Barrios). "Odyssey" was named "CD of the Month" by ECO Magazine.

His CD “Guitarra Clásica del Perú”, released by Avi and featuring world premiere recordings of original guitar works from Peru from the 18th and 19th centuries (including minuets by Pedro Ximenez Abrill Tirado), was also enthusiastically received by the press. “Gorgeous Guitar Music” (Classical Guitar Magazine), “One of the greatest discoveries in the guitar repertoire in recent decades!” [ORF - Austrian Radio 2014].

A sheet music edition of the 100 minuets by Pedro Ximénez Abrill Tirado was published by Ramírez at Chantarelle/Schott.

For many years, Ramirez has also been interested in the "Romantic Guitar," especially in a duo with Sheila Arnold on fortepiano. Their first joint CD was released in 2021 by Avi. "Entertaining, captivating, enigmatically beautiful!" (Online-Merker) "Very vibrant, powerful, and expressive, as well as immediately communicative interpretations that make this CD a pleasure," (Staccato Magazine, Remy Franck)

Ramirez studied with M. Kersting, José-Luis González, and Pepe Romero. He is a professor at the Robert Schumann University of Music in Düsseldorf, a regular guest at international guitar festivals, leads masterclasses worldwide, and serves on the juries of international guitar competitions. Ramirez plays guitars by Paco Santiago Marin, Antonio Marin, José Ramirez, Bernd Kresse, Carsten Kobs, and Antonius Müller. Ramirez uses D'Addario strings.
